ironically loving a tv show 101

naushikaSo there is this show called The Last Ship and it's kind of terrible but kind of amazing at the same time. The plots are - IMO - pretty predictable, and everything is so ham-fisted and anvilicious, but my god, it's so entertaining somehow. Probably BECAUSE of those things. It's like watching a SyFy original movie every week.
No, you know what it is? It's like season 1 SG-1 with a WAYYYYY bigger budget and taking themselves even more seriously.
One of the moments early on I knew the show would be - air quotes - great was in the first or second episodes when the ship - a goddamn US Navy ship - has only one fuse left for an incredibly important part of their engine. It was so dramatic - sparks flying! everyone's shouting! and someone goes THERE'S ONLY ONE FUSE LEFT!!!!!! I'm dying you guys. Dying.
Is this a good time to mention this show comes from miCHAEL BAY?!
The best line of the series so far happened last night, in my mind.
"You make me want to love again."
Someone said that. Unironically. And the character that said it is a wise-cracking never-serious dude who likes Guns and 'Merica and his name is Tex ffs and he hot for the doctor and in last episode we found out a ~serious side of him when it turns out he has (had?) a daughter and in a moment of sickness-induced vulnerability he spouts that line.
"You make me want to love again."
I'm laughing again, right now, typing it out. Ahahaha oh god.
Other fun things about this show:
Colonel Dave Dixon Adam Fucking Baldwin is in this and he smokes cigars and generally is gr8, I forget his character's actual name because he's ALWAYS DAVE DIXON TO ME
The captain of the ship and Dr Scott, ostensibly the two main characters (besides Ham and Cheese), and I don't know if I'm SUPPOSED to root for them but I do?? The captain has a wife and kids but idgaf, these two are the only ones with any chemistry. And my shipping is out of control. I MUST SHIP. IT IS MY IMPERATIVE. And the Dr Scott/Tex thing they are doing makes no fucking sense, LOL.

SITWELL *SHAKES FIST* I have an ongoing storyline in my head that the plague is all a result of Hydra's nefarious evil-doings

ADORABLE INSECURE ENGINEER, he's only the second engineer or whatever the terms are, the chief engineer is actually a LADY. This entire show is diverse as fuck and makes sure you know it, because look at how accepting the Navy is, we're modern now and totally aren't full of douchebags anymore, don't you want to join the navy????
WE CAN'T FORGET the poorly accented comically evil over the top Russians!!!! Meet the Russian commander of another ship (uhh guess we're not the LAST ship now are we? lol), who will LITERALLY MURDER HIS OWN PEOPLE to get what he wants ahahahahaha JESUS, so evil. And he keeps sipping tea.. evilly. SO GREAT.
this guy's name is Bacon. LOL.
