PSA: The Hurt/Comfort Exchange is happening soon! [community profile] hurtcomfortex [community profile] hurtcomfortex [community profile] hurtcomfortex

Hurt/comfort is probably my number one favorite trope! I am going to try to do this exchange. It's currently in the nomination phase. There's already a lot of pairings and freeforms that I am into that have been nominated, and I have added some more of my own. Nominations are open through the 24th and signups start March 1st. Plenty of time still!

Other stuff:

I finally bought a Nintendo Switch and Animal Crossing. I will definitely be sinking a lot of my life into the game for probably the next year, hah. Collecting things and decorating things are like two of my favorite cozy game mechanics so yeah, I'm going to be having a good time.

The Switch is a really great console besides that. I love all the classic games you can play through the online portion. But now I need to buy a carrying case for it because I'm afraid to bring it out of the house without proper protection!

Also, I've finally started getting into pottery making. I'm doing slip casting rather than hand sculpting things, because I lack the artistry to hand sculpt. However it did require me learning another skill as well, which is mold making:

Mixing plaster, and making the mold of my object (which is a soda can).

The finished mold! It could be much better, but not bad for my first ever mold.

A cast piece of pottery from my mold! An actual clay item! That I made!

I am still only partway through the whole process. I've made a couple of these and they have to dry for a few weeks, then they can be fired, then glazed, then fired again. And I don't have a kiln so I have to find one that I can 'rent' space in to do it. But I'm excited that it's worked this well so far! And doing pottery casting has been surprisingly easy. Usually when I get into a new hobby the learning curve is really extreme and it takes me a while before I really start getting enjoyment out of it, but this was almost instant. (Although it took a lot of money for supplies and a lot of research to learn how to do every single step, but once I understood all the parts of the process, actually doing the steps was easy!) While these dry, I'm planning out the next item I want to make.

There's a lot of steps involved but I've been obsessed with the idea for at least 6 months of making my own pottery pieces. I'm excited it's coming together!
