naushika: (Psych - Shawn & Gus - vision)
I posted screencaps from season 2 of Foundation over here! I meant to make Foundation icons this weekend but then I couldn't find any screencaps so instead I spent my whole weekend screencapping all of season 2 and then I decided I need to share the love so I put together theses posts and now I have no time left for actually making any icons, lol. Perhaps next weekend.

My next show rewatch - which I had originally been thinking might be SG-1 or one of the Treks - has ended up being Psych. I have always randomly rewatched episodes here and there, but I have never watched the whole series through from beginning to end since it first aired. And I've been thinking about Psych a lot lately, how fun and wonderful it was, and also I never watched all the movies and I feel like I need to rewatch the show before I can watch the movies. (Not that I really NEED to, but it's a great excuse to rewatch the show.) I think Psych is possibly one of the most underappreciated shows of our time. Can you believe it went for 8 seasons??? I really miss those days of TV.

I watched the first two episodes last night, and of course the pilot is always weird because it had the other lady cop instead of Juliet. And it was 10000% the right move to get a new character (and actress). The pilot was a little weird because pilots often are, but the second episode right out of the gate, Spellingg Bee, was so funny and such a classically Psych episode. And the introduction of Juliet, a breath of fresh air and was completely needed for the show.

One thing I'm really looking forward to on the rewatch is having my Carlton/Juliet shipping goggles firmly on from the get-go. I was a hardcore Shawn/Juliet shipper when watching the first time around, and then halfway through the show I was like "wait a minute.. Carlton/Juliet is right there.." and realized how much their dynamic worked for me. See this old ship manifesto for the perfect summary on all my thoughts and feelings. Regardless, I'm lowkey excited to watch the show again shipping them from the beginning this time.

Also, I now need to make new Psych icons!

Dear Yuletide Author,

I'm so very excited to be participating in Yuletide and thrilled that you are writing for me! I can't want to see what it is you come up with.

The prompts and ideas I've listed for each request are there for guidance. If you want to run with one of my prompts, awesome! If you are inspired by one but take a different direction, great! If you come up with your own idea and don't use mine, cool! The ideas are meant to help, not hinder. :) That said, I only request that you honor my DNWs, both my general DNW list and any request-specific DNWs I might have.

And that's it!! Thank you again for writing me a story. I'm so excited to read it.

Another entry for the Fannish Fifty - of which I'm only at #3 and there's like 4 months left of the year. So I'm making great progress here, hah.

I'm just Love's Bitch (tm Spike) so I ship in pretty much everything I can, including video games. Although so many video games make it easy now because they have much more detailed stories, fleshed out and acted characters, and even romanceable characters. But I've found I totally ship the unromanceable characters, too. So here's a list of my favorite ships out of video games, of both romanceable and unromanceable characters.

naushika: (Fringe - Olivia - close up)
I've started a rewatch of Fringe, which is very exciting to me. I haven't really rewatched the show since it ended. But it's great because while I certainly remember lots about the show, there's lots I apparently don't remember, as watching each episode so far has been very fun and partially-new to me because it's been so long.

Thoughts I'm having on this journey:

- This show was so, so, SO good. So solid, and so wonderfully written and acted. Sometimes the fervor of your fandom blinds you to flaws, but watching the show again, 15 years later, I have to say.. pretty much no flaws. If you ask me, Fringe is a criminally underrated scifi show. I cannot wait to progress further in the story, because it gets so much more exciting from here.

- Anna Torv, Joshua Jackson, and John Noble are three insanely incredible actors and looking back, it's mind blowing to me that they got all that talent together for one show. All 3 of them are powerhouses and I love watching them all. The relationships between each set of them in every combination + the 3 of them together is just sO GOOD AUJDfjkds.

- The chemistry between Peter and Olivia really was there from episode one. :))))))))) My inner shipmonster is lumbering awake as the episodes go along. But what I love best (and feels right from how I remember it the last time around), was that Peter falls hard for Olivia first. (My favorite flavor of het- the guy falling first. :D)

- Olivia remains one of my favorite tv characters of all time. Remember that time her dinner was a bowl of dry cereal and a glass of straight up whiskey, without even any ice? Lmao.

tl;dr this is me right now:

Dear Crossworks Author,

Thank you so much for writing me a fic! I'm very excited about this exchange as I love crossovers! Below I've listed each of my requests and a handful of possible prompts. These prompts are merely starting points and some inspiration. If you have a different direct you'd like to go in, feel free! At the end of the letter I have general lists of my Likes and DNWs to help guide you. I've also included some relationships I like, if you feel inclined to go the romance direction. I did also include some DNW ships, and I would request those please not be included in the story.

Skyrim/Stargate SG-1 and/or Skyrim/Stargate Atlantis
Fic/Crossover, Fic/Fusion

(I put Skyrim/SG1 and Skyrim/Atlantis as two separate options to ensure I wouldn't accidentally be matched on SG1/Atlantis, but for this you are free to use any characters from either SG1 or Atlantis willy nilly, whether it be only one of the canons or from both!)

I would love either crossover or fusion for this. I think either one could be fun! Is one of the teams faced with the bizarreness of a Skyrim planet that they have to navigate? Or have they always been there? Would one of the Stargate characters be the Dragonborn (and who would be their companion)? Or would they be people simply trying to get along in the Dragonborn's world? Why do I feel like Ronon would desperately want to ride a dragon?? How would the people of Skyrim react to the Earthlings? Does an Ancient artifact make characters from Skyrim come to life? Does the Stargate team get trapped in Skyrim, knowing it's a video game (but not safe from danger, gasp!)? Soo many fun options.

** Very optional deep cut: If you have played the Inigo follower mod, I love him, and would be thrilled if he made an appearance!

(Optional) Ships I like in these universes: John/Elizabeth, Sam/Cam, Sam/Jack, Elizabeth/Lorne, Elizabeth/Ronon. Feel free to pair up any characters from the Skyrim universe with the Stargate characters as well!
Ships I dislike in these universes: John/Rodney, Daniel/Vala

Frostpunk/Stargate SG-1 and/or Frostpunk/Stargate Atlantis
Fic/Fusion

(I put Frostpunk/SG1 and Frostpunk/Atlantis as two separate options to ensure I wouldn't accidentally be matched on SG1/Atlantis, but for this you are free to use any characters from either SG1 or Atlantis willy nilly, whether it be only one of the canons or from both!)

I am super interested in seeing the Stargate characters in the Frostpunk universe. What roles would they have? How would they survive the harsh reality of a cold and dying world? Would they save the day, or die of the frigid cold in a drafty tent on the edges of Winterhome? Maybe the Ancients or Asgard come in and save the day? Is Elizabeth/Jack/Sam/whoever a corrupt and evil leader in this universe, or do they save everyone? I am only interested in a fusion of these universes, with the Stargate characters in the Frostpunk universe. Mostly cause I don't think the other way would be as interesting. I am really open to anything plotwise here, I just love survival stuff, so I think this setup has a lot of potential. :)

(Optional) Ships I like in these universes: John/Elizabeth, Sam/Cam, Sam/Jack, Elizabeth/Lorne, Elizabeth/Ronon
Ships I dislike in these universes: John/Rodney, Daniel/Vala

Warehouse 13/Stargate SG-1 and/or Warehouse 13/Stargatge Atlantis
Fic/Crossover

(I put Warehouse 13/SG1 and Warehouse 13/Atlantis as two separate options to ensure I wouldn't accidentally be matched on SG1/Atlantis, but for this you are free to use any characters from either SG1 or Atlantis willy nilly, whether it be only one of the canons or from both!)

I would specifically enjoy a crossover for these fandoms as I am interested in how the characters from each universe would react to each other/interact with each other. Maybe the W13 team find an artifact that transports some/all of them to Atlantis? Maybe someone from the team is recruited for the Stargate program? Maybe an artifact pops up that attracts the Stargate crew's interest and they have to visit the W13 team? Maybe someone from the Stargate program joins the W13 team? (Maybe undercover??) Both these universes are so flexible, there are a million ways they could interact! I am fine with either a big group mingling adventure, or just one-two characters from one universe interacting in the other.

(Optional) Ships I like in these universes: Myka/HG, John/Elizabeth, Sam/Cam, Sam/Jack, Elizabeth/Lorne, Elizabeth/Ronon. I am also open and interested in any cross-universe pairings you might come up with, if that's where the story goes. I feel like Pete and Sam would get along really well.
Ships I dislike in these universes: Pete/Myka, John/Rodney, Daniel/Vala

Skyrim/Quantum Leap (2022)
Fic/Crossover, Fic/Fusion

The whole basis for for my choosing this crossover was I had a vision of Ben jumping into the Dragonborn, and it instantly made me laugh at the image of him trying to do a shout. Comedy for this fic is optional however, that's not at all the scenario you have to do. The more I thought about it, the more ways I thought this could be an interesting crossover. We've seen that Ziggy can indeed send Ben to the future (although it's difficult). What if the Skyrim universe is a far off vision of Earth/humanity? Or maybe it is Earth's deep past. Why does Ben get sent there? Maybe it's to handle a quest the Dragonborn can't. Or there's the fusion option! I would love to see the whole QL team in the Skyrim setting. Who would be in the Thieves Guild and why is it Jenn? Maybe the QL team is studying magic at the College of Winterhold? I feel like that place is just full of drama.

** Very optional deep cut: If you have played the Inigo follower mod, I love him, and would be thrilled if he made an appearance!

(Optional) Ships I like in these universes: Ben/Ian - I also love this friendship and don't think it's been explored enough in canon yet!
Ships I dislike in these universes: Ben/Addison (I realize it is canon and I am okay with it remaining a canon element of any fic I receive. I just don't want Ben/Addison romance fic, please :)

The past 3 weekends have been filled with medical appointments for myself & my cat. I just finished the last of my appointments today (and now just wait for the results to come in) so that is a weight off my shoulders.

My cat, Jeffrey, has an appointment at the dental clinic this coming Monday to get all of his teeth removed. :( My poor little guy has stomatitis and the treatment we tried didn't work. So now all his teeth need to come out. He is only 3 years old.

I feel insanely guilty over making such a dramatically body-altering surgery on him which will fundamentally alter the rest of his life. EVEN THOUGH I know it's saving his life. Left unchecked, stomatitis can cause extensive painful sores and swelling, the gums will resorb the teeth down and expose the nerves, which is painful as well. Often a cat will stop eating. It's a really bad disease, we see advanced cases of it on cats at work all the time and the outcome for them is always euthanasia. Once it goes too far, there's no treatment that can work. Fortunately it's been caught plenty early for my kiddo so the doctor is confident he'll make a full and happy recovery, and that he'll be more comfortable once the teeth are gone.

I know it's just my human perceptions and emotions getting in the way, and Jeffrey won't be bothered, but I still feel really sad about doing this surgery to him. He will absolutely love the wet food diet he'll be going on, though. So there's an upside, hah.

Good things lately:

- While Jeffrey's surgery is going to cost me $1800 (and that was a good deal!), my own appointments, lab tests, and x rays cost me nothing. A completely genuine Thanks, Obama for instituting all those insurance regulations so that all of these things are covered.

- I got a new car! I got a 2023 Nissan Kicks. I am completely in love with it, and it's so nice to be out from under the burden of my dying old car (even if I'm sentimental and I miss it and I almost cried a little when I walked away from her for the last time).

- My student loans processed my PSLF paperwork and I'm up to 103 qualifying payments out of 120 needed. Leaving me with 17 payments to go. This is all as of last October, and I've already hit 6 more qualifying payments since then (just not approved yet as I need to file more paperwork to do that). Leaving me with only 11 payments to go. So, 11 months. Theoretically, this time next year, I will have my student loans forgiven. Eeee.

- We are taking care of a stray cat that was living in our backyard and gave birth.

Mom is a little skittish but sometimes she's okay with being pet. She had 3 kittens and they're all stupid adorable. They're about 2 weeks old now. I love having kittens in the house. We're going to take care of them until they are old enough and big enough for surgery, then I'll bring them into work and find everyone forever homes. <3 No street living for these babies.

Another entry for my Fannish Fifty challenge, in which I am talking all things video game. For this entry, I'm going to highlight some of my favorite VG soundtracks. I'm definitely biased as most of my favorite soundtracks are for games that I have a deep emotional connection to, so I'm sure that's not an accident.

car life

naushika: (TLOU - Ellie - close up)
I'm currently on a week long vacation from work (yay!) but the reason I'm on the vacation is because I had to bring my car into the shop and I knew they'd have it a while (boo). It turns out they're going to have it a really long while as the transmission needs replaced, again. I will probably have to rent a car for at least a week when I go back to work, because the dealership "discontinued" their loaner program. How can you discontinue car loaners? Corporations are just out here cutting everything customer service based left and right in order to save a few dollars. You know how expensive car rentals are now? The cheapest I could find was $900 for a week. Ouch.

But after the car gets fixed, I am going to have to buy a new car. There is something fundamentally broken about my car that will continually destroy the transmission (it is an early model CVT car I bought almost ten years ago, and all the CVTs of this era are having this same problem), and once I hit that 10 year mark I won't get free transmission replacements anymore. The last one only lasted 6 months before breaking again. The car is, unfortunately, giving a death rattle. So as loath as I am to incur a new monthly expense, it is unavoidable. There are scant few cars under $20k on the market but there are a few, so once I get my car back I'm going to schedule some test drives.

But since I am stranded at home this week I am trying to get some projects done around the house, so that's fun. I am also putting a lot of time into my Animal Crossing island. And playing other games.

Tonight is the season finale of The Last of Us. I can't wait!
