HOLY CRAP THAT WAS AMAZINGGGGGGGG
Like, Iron Man's not even my fave, but this was a big movie to me because it's the first one that came out since I got into this whole huge Marvel/Avengers fandom and fell in love with it. I'm negl, I got a tad emotional at the end just cause I love this stupid universe so much and everything's so great and yeah.
Okay so ACTUAL MOVIE REVIEW time. Except it's just bullet points cause I can't be coherent.
BAD THINGS FIRST to get them out of the way
- The villain, Killian, was kinda 2-dimensional. I really didn't understand WHY he hated Tony so much. Cause Tony was a dick to him once and he waited on a roof alone for a couple hours? And he hated Pepper that much cause he asked her out a few times years ago and she said no? o..k... I really feel like Killian was lacking a lot of depth there. (As was his assistant, Mya, who seemed to flip sides back and forth and basically I didn't really understand her motivations either.)
- Pepper got damsel'd pretty hard in the middle of the film and that's always ouchy to see (especially since Pepper's In Danger! has been done before), but at least it was sandwiched with moments of awesome (talked about in the GOOD THINGS section ehehe)
- Tony got his arc reactor and shards removed from his chest?????????? I don't.. I'm confused. Why? D: That's who Iron Man is! lol. I get that he can still wear suits without it cause most of them are now independently powered but idk, that just made me sad.
- I mean, objectively speaking, overall, the story did lack a little depth. But the first Iron Man was so monumentally good, nothing will ever compare.
GOOD THINGS now cause YAYYYYY
- I'M TALKING ABOUT PEPPER FIRST SO THERE. I looooooved all her moments! Getting to wear the suit and saving Tony's butt, and at the end when she got Extremis'd and saved Tony's butt again by getting the bad guy. A+++ would fawn over again. I didn't appreciate the Pepper-is-dead fakeout but it didn't bother me too much in the end I guess, because it was really obvious she'd survive since earlier in the film Extremis'd people survived worse than a long fall, lol. NICE TRY PLAYING WITH MY HEARTSTRINGS BUT I DIDN'T BUY IT. :D Pepper was awesome and I love her the end.
- LOTS OF GOOD RHODEY MOMENTS TOO! Sadly not that much of him actually in the Iron Patriot suit, but we got to see him being a badass regardless. RHODEYyyyyyyy.
- Okay the Mandarin fakeout TOTALLY got me. LOL. I was 100000% surprised he was just an actor and Killian was pulling the strings. My boyfriend said he realized it immediately but fortunately I'm not that bright I guess so I had no idea. I thought that was great. XD
- Some good little character moments. Rhodey and Tony having lunch, Pepper's conversation with Mya, Tony and the kid's interactions. Not as many as I might have liked but I enjoyed what was there. And Tony and that kid were just golden ok. I loved every interaction, I don't even care.
- YINSEN! *weeps*
- I'm ngl, I'm a sucker for the action scenes. THE HOUSE PARTY PROTOCOL HJALJFKDSLJFDKS. GIANT IRON MAN ARMOR FIGHT. I enjoyed all of it. YES GOOD.
- So much Tony/Pepper ajkdlsfjdkslfdjfeslkdjfds.
- WE MUST TALK ABOUT THAT TAG. BRUUUUUUUUUCEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. SCREECHES AND DIES. I was hoping for a Thor-related tag but you know I ain't even disappointed. BRUCE MY DARLING. *PETS*
OTHER THINGS I must mention
- This was my first opening night movie I'd ever gone to, and it was really a lot of fun. Everyone in the audience were huge MCU nerds too, and everyone cheered and clapped and whoo-hooed during various awesome parts and IDK it was just super fun to be in a room with hundreds of other nerds. I SAW SO MANY GEEKY T-SHIRTS. Good times.
- Related to both the nerds and the tag scene, almost everybody in the theater knew to stay to the end which was cool. A handful of people left at the credits (REALLY???) but most stayed. :D And also I'm so PUMPED that Bruce's appearance in the tag was kept quiet. Or at least quiet enough that I never stumbled across it. A+++ INTERNATIONAL AUDIENCE WOULD BE OK WITH LETTING YOU GET MOVIES FIRST AGAIN.
- I'm sure I left stuff out cause that was a lot of movie to process and my brain was just AHLSFJDKSFd.
