31 days of blogging - day 19
Nov. 2nd, 2013 03:28 pmI spent most of this morning in a rumbly mood because I thought it was Sunday. Why I thought it was Sunday I have no idea. But it turns out IT'S ONLY SATURDAY. YEAHHHHHH. Suddenly I am enjoying my day a lot more, LOL.
19. What do you collect?
Aside from cats, yarn, and comic books? lol.
Well specifically within comic books, I've decided I want to collect all Spider-Woman comics. I picked Spider-Woman for a few reasons: 1) I love the shit out of Jessica Drew, 2) I randomly bought two comics at two different times just because they were Spider-Woman comics and I realized she's pretty much the only character I have done this with, and 3) She's got a lot of comics but not a ridiculously unachievably huge amount (like Spider-Man, for instance) so it's a reasonable long-term casual collecting goal. Here's my very small initial collection :D

Leftmost is the very first appearance of Spider-Woman in Marvel Spotlight. Center is Spider-Woman #1. And right most is just a random Spider-Woman origins comic from Bendis I came across in a comic shop. I thought it was a one-off but turns out it's like 1 of 4 goddamit so I have to get the rest anyway, lol.
Other things I like to collect are (and FORGIVE ME IN ADVANCE for the mess these photos are, I REALLY need to clean and organize my living room shelves.. it's on this month's to-do list):

1960s-70s vintage Heller melamine stacking dinnerware. (In this picture it's the two large yellow trays, all the multicolored and white plates, and difficult-to-see purple bowl at the top.) I've assembled these pieces from several different trips to thrift stores. I'm fuckin obsessed with them tbh. They're SO CUTE. And I use them all the time.

General old stuff!

In the biggest black case: Filmo Master projector, made somewhere between 1928 and 1931

In the smaller brownish case: Cine Kodak model B 16mm camera, from the late 1920s

In the two smaller leather cases: 30s or 40s slide rule, and an old spyglass from idk when but probably 50s or 60s. The slide rule is cool though because it belongs to my boyfriend's grandfather when he was in school.

Cool old lantern. I did some research, and this is a type of lantern that used to be used for railroad signals. They would use different colored glass to signal different messages to trains. I doubt the glass is original (these lanterns are very common and there is an entire aftermarket of replacement glass and other parts) but it was a neat find at a thrift store.

And last but not least, old radios! Left, a Philco 1960s transistor radio. On the right is a 30s or 40s vintage radio, I forget the brand, we really only bought it cause it looked nice. We gutted it, put in modern little computer and speaker stuff, and it has a wire that comes out the back and plugs into an mp3 player or phone. So it is a music player. :D

Date: 2013-11-05 10:22 pm (UTC)Oohh old thermoses look so cool but yeah that's the exact reason I've never bought one. There's so many nooks and crannies and it's hard to get down in there.. I don't think I'd trust it either! And they always faintly smell of coffee or something, lol.
They are!! :D
