30 days of mass effect - day 2
Mar. 14th, 2014 01:45 pmOmg my paid dreamwidth expired and I'm out of money for the month, ruuuuuuuude. Ok not really rude. But why do all the best things cost money?? haha.
2. Male or Female Shepard? Why?

Femshep all the wayyyyyy. :D
I totally already talked about this so I won't belabor the point, but, playing as someone who represents me, that I can actually look up to, is pretty powerful. I've been a gamer my whole life, and I've been playing as dudes my whole life, and it's not until you get to play as a woman that you realize just how sad and unfair that is.
I will also say that Jennifer Hale, the voice of femshep, is ah-maaaaaaay-zing.

I don't want to denigrate Mark Meer, the broshep voice actor, and I haven't played the game as broshep so I mean I haven't gotten the full experience.. but I've watched many, many vids on youtube and I feel like the broshep's emotional intensity is much less. I mean, maybe it's just because I'm so attached to femshep's voice that the difference is throwing me out of things, but I just.. don't buy broshep's conviction, or heroism, or anything, lol. So yeah no offense to him but I just feel like femshep is 204820 times better and more engaging. :D

Date: 2014-03-15 01:27 am (UTC)Yesss, it's great. Though I can't believe how even just getting that choice makes some assholes so angry. I saw a comment online the other day where the guy was like "why are women in RPGs being emphasized" because you can play as a woman in Mass Effect.. i was like REALLY? Just the OPTION of being a woman is now "emphasizing" women? wtffff

Date: 2014-03-16 08:34 pm (UTC)She's so great!! And what I really really love to bits and pieces - besides somebody I can connect with and the great voiceacting
i'll gladly poop on the male voiceactor shhh- is how they've just swapped out the male character for the female character, but nothing else has changed. The body language is the same, the camera angles are the same, and the various storylines and emotional beats are all. the. same. It makes me flail just to think about it, that I got all of that on top of a stellar story. Hearts in my freaking eyes.
