I watched two movies last night!

- Hunger Games: Catching Fire It was a pretty fun flick. Great effects and action and quite a lot of the movie felt pretty true to the book. I don't get excited about Hunger Games like other people (though I enjoyed the books, the movies are just not doing it for me somehow idk) but they aren't bad movies at all. I did appreciate the scene where Katniss was like Gale let's run away into the wooooods and Gale is like ONLY IF YOU SAY YOU LOVE ME RIGHT NOW and Katniss is like jfc I can't even with you. FUCKING GALE. I've.. possibly hated him since the books. lol

- The Heat. Fairly predictable plot-wise, but I thought it was really funny. And I love Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy kind of to an unnatural degree so I really enjoyed it. Also somehow it's just kind of nice to hear lady-focused jokes for once. Even though it's predictable, I don't really care? Like plenty of dude-filled movies are predictable as shit and make plenty of money. The criticism and naysaying of The Heat annoys me because apparently the movie not only had to make money, it also was required to have 4058209 times better writing than any other action buddy cop comedy out there? I like it because it normalizes women in film, not because it proves women can make better movies, or something.. IDK my thoughts are all over the place but long story short: I laughed at the movie. And I got ladies. So there.

I'm reading a book! (gasp)

- Are we tired of young adult female-starring post-apocalypse stories yet? No?? GOOD. Penryn & The End of Days is a book series that [personal profile] timetobegin got me on reading. I read the first one (Angelfall) a while ago and I just picked up the second in the series (World After) this past weekend. I'm about 2/3 done with it now, and I kind of am purposely being slow in reading it because the next book in the series isn't out yet (and might not be for a while D:) so I don't want to rush through to that haha. But it's got a pretty unique twist on the whole end of the world scenario, because in this series angels (yes, actual angels, as in God's angels) come to Earth and totally fuck everyone's shit up. I'm really enjoying it.

I went outside several times!

- I started on my garden!

So far only one box is filled/planted because a) fuck it takes a long time to till soil and shit omg and b) a small dust storm interrupted the afternoon so we packed it in. Anyway so far planted is Anaheim chiles (mild chili peppers) and zucchini. The other box will have spaghetti squash and butternut squash. Because I really love squash. And also those do well being planted this time of the year.

- I went to the arboretum state park this past weekend and is was very pretty and lovely.

I love the desert, I think the plants here are very pretty! The arboretum also had lots of plants from Australia, Egypt, Zimbabwe, and other hot places, so it was really interesting. There was a tree with flowers that smelled like grape popsicles, true story. Some of the plants looked so weird and different that it felt like I walked into like, the jurassic period or some shit, like these are plants that dinosaurs would have tromped through. NATURE'S COOL Y'ALL

I ADORED The Heat. It was my favorite Sandra Bullock movie for... well, a couple of months anyway. Darn her for being so productive. ;D I agree with you, it was on par with 21 Jump Street or Cop Out or any number of guy cop comedies. They didn't break new ground, but why would they have to? Just because they're ladies? It was a welcome addition to the genre, more than welcome. I love that Ashburn was able to loosen up without wholly changing who she was. It seemed like a realistic shift to me.

"Well, I guess you two are engaged now."
"What? Why?"
"Cause you just gave me a RING, mothafuckah!"

Mo' Gale for meeeeeeeee. *won't get into her extreme Peeta distaste from the books onwards.* lol.

Also yes! The Penryn & the End of Days books are so good. I just read them earlier this year.
