1) Ward is doing a double DOUBLE fake out and is infiltrating Hydra

2) Ward is totes mind controlled a la the Winter Soldier

Oh man what a great episode. I feel so vindicated for watching AoS all along tbh, it paid off in a big way. The tie in with Cap 2 is great and SO MANY THINGS ARE HAPPENING AHHHHHHH

I've decided he must be mind-controlled. It explains why he killed the "clairvoyant" too.

Yeah. I'm on board with mind controlled. And really, it's kind of the only way to 100% redeem him later. (Unless they seriously are going with the He's Evil and Now a Villian twist which would make me so sad but it would be extremely unexpected!)

I'd almost admire them if they went with him being evil all along just because it would be such a surprise.

At the same time, I love Ward, and I want him to be mind controlled and therefore still good. I feel like they were hinting that with him not really listening to the story, and the odd look in his eyes. But we'll see.

Either way, I'm probably not getting May/Ward back. :(

Exactly. With mind control, everything awful he's done can be forgiven. I read a good interview with some PTB after the episode aired (and of course now I can't find it again) where they answered a bunch of questions about Ward. One of them being that they brought Brett Dalton in on the secret partway through filming the first season, so he could start to use that knowledge as part of his portrayal. So that tells me that they're intending him to have been under control (or evil) since very early on.. perhaps even since the very beginning.

They also said that they specifically wrote Ward connecting with everyone in different ways - Simmons and the parachute save, Skye and the romance, May and the.. romance (lol Ward's a bit of a one trick pony I guess), Fitz and that mission they went on together, etc, all with the goal of earning everyone's trust. Which made me omg because that's how I fell in love with Ward as the show went on, myself. I FEEL AS VIOLATED AS I EXPECT EVERY OTHER CHARACTER TO FEEL ONCE THEY DISCOVER THAT WARD HAS TURNED. (I didn't think I'd enjoy a character going bad this much!)

Wow. So clearly this is going to be an extended plotline! They did do a really nice job of winning the audience over along with the team, though.

Part of me wondered if Ward IS evil, and Trip was going to be the specialist next season. SUCH a crazysauce episode. I hadn't seen Cap 2, but I was spoiled for Hydra.

That would make me SO sad, for Ward to be evil for good, but it would be a really great and surprising twist, too! I think that Ward will be on the side of evil for a while, at least (I do think Trip is the obvious Ward Replacement, and will probably join the team while Ward is off being a bad guy :D).

i REFUSE to believe he's just evil. I'm going for Option 1 but Option 2 will do as well. But when there were still 5 minutes left and everyone was reasonably okay, I had a VERY BAD FEELING some other twist was coming.

But man, it's been soooo good the past few weeks, and this one was just amazing. WHY IS NEXT TUESDAY SO FAR AWAY? WHYYYYYYYYYYY????

BABY. i actually kinda hope he is evil because its such a twist, but at the same time that can only end two ways - death or .... death. lol. otherwise its just drawn out evil!ward. but i would be interested to see if it was a double cross (unlikely unles victoria is still alive? sad about victoria tbh.) but i also like the mind whammy theory too maybe??

coulson/may could be pretty interesting. I read a post where the cellist is a fake memory, and actually he and may were involved and he doesn't remember so she's just there to watch him anyway. i'm like OH REALLY.

Ooohhh that's an interesting theory. But I guess the one area it doesn't make sense is Coulson referenced the cellist before dying/being resurrected so that would mean someone gave him a fake memory before all that happened.
