WHOOPS accidentally disappeared again for a few months. Mostly, it's just been crazy busy. The holidays were busy, work has been stressful and busy, yada yada.
Honestly, some days I am crazy jealous of all the people working from home. I have been seriously considering a possible job change to something I can do from my house, where I don't have to commute anymore. My commute to work used to be a cool 20+ minutes and the traffic has gotten exponentially worse over the last year, and now my commute has doubled to 40+ minutes some days. Also, I'd love to be able to do things on the internet again randomly through my work day. I have my phone and so most of my daily internet activities are twitter related, but I hate it there. I wish it were a little easier to use dreamwidth and stuff.
The only issue is I'm still trying to finish out my 10 years of public service, so I can get loan forgiveness through PSLF. I'm not sure exactly how much time I have left because I can't get a clear answer on if AmeriCorps counts (I feel like it should but the literature seems to disagree, and I've seen conflicting personal anecdotes). I filed my paperwork for PSLF so far way back in October and it is still 'processing' on the website. I either have 1.5 years left or 2.5 years left. But if and when I get my 10 years, and my loans forgiven, then my options are wide open.
I still love my job, but also, I'm tired. The longer you stay in one place, the more the bullshit accumulates. Idk. I'm stuck for a little while yet still, either way.
In other news, I am watching some things:
The Last Of Us
I never played the game, because it was never released on PC. (Funnily enough, it will finally launch on PC next month.) But I read about it and the story always sounded good, so I was excited for the tv show. And it has really not disappointed, especially the most recent 3rd episode, which made me ugly cry. I'm really looking forward to more!
Quantum Leap
I finally started watching this, I'm 4 episodes deep. It is a little cheesy, but as my boyfriend rightly pointed out, the original QL was pretty cheesy itself. The first couple episodes didn't wow me, but I got more into the next couple after that. I like all the characters except Addison. I'm not sure if it's just the writing, because her character is pretty boilerplate, which is especially sad next to all the rest of the characters who are very interesting and different and not boilerplate, or if it's the actress, because I'm not gelling with her and I don't think her and the lead have any chemistry whatsoever. (If you're gonna make a romance the central relationship of a show, there better be great chemistry, imo.) But aside from that, the actor who plays Ben Song is SO good, he definitely charmed me immediately, and like I said, the rest of the characters are different and fun. I think this has the makings of a good, more old-style type of 'adventure of the week' kind of tv, which I'm always wanting more of. I've still got more episodes to catch up on so I'll keep watching.
Poker Face
LOVING THIS. Natasha Lyonne can do no wrong imo, and in this we have the fun and witty Rian Johnson storytelling, Natasha doing her thing as a Lebowski-inspired unraveler of mysteries, lots of incredibly interesting guest characters, and mood mood mooooooooood. I think I will watch anything Natasha Lyonne is in.

Date: 2023-02-03 01:34 am (UTC)Ha! So true. I've been experiencing that myself recently. Also, long commutes suck. There are actual studies on how unhappy they make you.
I hope you get the public service program sorted out. I keep hearing horror stories about the bureaucracy involved.
So Poker Face is good! I've been thinking of watching because the reviews are so good.

Date: 2023-02-03 09:01 pm (UTC)Yess! Watch Poker Face! It's really fun, but also heartfelt. It's kinda like a tv version of one of any of those series of novels featuring one person who keeps finding themselves in situations where they have to unravel everything going on. There's a slight backstory happening but each episode features a new set of circumstances. I guess a lot of people are equating it to a modern Columbo but I will admit I've never watched that so I couldn't say. But I'm loving it.
