TV Roundup
Oct. 18th, 2023 01:34 pmI've been watching a lot lately!
I finished my rewatch of Fringe. The whole show is just perfect, from beginning to end.
I was so struck with the difference between the easy relationship Olivia was forming with Lincoln (y'know, before the downloading of her original timeline memories) and how things went with Peter. Because in the altered timeline, Olivia didn't finish with the cortexiphan experiments. She was raised by Nina, who loved her and showed her support and affection. And as a result, Olivia was so open to an emotional connection to Lincoln. She enjoyed it. Their relationship was moving relatively quickly! At least compared to Olivia and Peter, who she pushed away over and over until he broke through (the way Olivia pushed away everybody over and over). In the end it made me even sadder for original timeline Olivia. She was indeed emotionally messed up by Walter's experimentation. Olivia without that seemed less burdened. (In a way not unlike Alt!Livia was.)
Long story short, I still love the way the show examined characters from different viewpoints. The main universe and the altverse and the altered timeline. All these subtly different versions of the characters were so wonderfully done.

I watched season 2 of Wheel of Time.
Was Nynaeve annoying anybody else?? Literally every decision she made and her entire attitude through this whole season drove me mad out of frustration. Which sucked because she was my favorite character in season 1! ;_; But on the flip side, I didn't really care that much for Egwene in season 1, but I liked her a lot in season 2. And Nynaeve wasn't the only one annoying me, I feel like Moiraine was making stupid decisions also.
Apart from character frustrations, I felt like the plot was tighter this season and more things happened. It was a fun, adventurous jaunt and the season felt way too short!! I'm excited that Rand is finally embracing his powers though.
I'm kind of bummed Liandrin is on the side of evil, even if she is obviously struggling with it. I enjoy the "bitchy" good guy characters. I hope she flips sides back.
Looking forward to season 3!

I watched season 2 of Foundation.
I absolutely love love love this show and season 2 was even better than season 1. The reveal of Demerzel as the evil puppeteer pulling all the strings was something I'd kind of wondered about as a while, and it fits so well. The backstory between her and Cleon was tragic and awful and I lowkey can't even blame her.
This season was especially heartbreaking. It was so sad when Salvor died. I LOVED Salvor. What a great character. And when Hober Mallow sacrificed himself for Brother Constant, their goodbye was so sad, and then Hober and Bel Riose's conversation as they awaited their death. Wowww. Everything about this season was super emotional. It was really good.
Gaal annoyed me a lot this season but she managed to redeem herself by the end, with saving Hari's life, lol. And Hari! TWO Hari Seldons! Absolutely delightful.
Season 3 can't come fast enough. And I just realized I have no Foundation icons; I shall have to make some.

I watched season 1 of Silo.
Several years ago I attempted to read the book series this show is based on (Wool), but I got about 3 chapters in because I found the writing rather slow going and was bored. Even though I loved the concept. So, imagine my utter glee when I discovered they made a tv show based on the books! Great! Now I can get the story in a faster way. LOL.
Season 1 was really good. Even though I'd read a few chapters of the first book, that covered the material of like.. a third of episode one. So I had no idea what was going to happen and it was a delightful mystery. The ending of the season was surprising! The whole show had a nice tense air to it as you try to figure out what the hell's going on, and who can be trusted. There were a couple twists and turns. I don't want to spoil things to much for anyone who might want to watch. If you like apocalyptic dystopian stories, though, Silo is for you! I have a feeling things are gonna get crazy in season 2.
