I have been watching more movies lately, partly because there's never any tv to watch anymore, and partly because I can't scratch my genre-related itches well enough without a constant stream of fresh new content. Mostly I watch either cosmic horror, 80s movies, or cyberpunk stuff. A couple nights ago, I watched Strange Days (1995) for the first time, and WOW. What a good movie.

First off, I must say I was kinda blown away by Ralph Fiennes. Previously, I'd only ever seen him in movies playing villains. The worst of the worst villains to boot (Voldemort and nazis, lol). So it was like a shock to see him playing the hero. And not only the hero, but the biggest little meow meow, lovable loser, heart of gold but fucks everything up type hero. He was sooo good, and I don't say this often but his charisma and charm was so magnetic. I like a lot of actors and characters but there's been very few times where I was captivated by someone on the screen, and this was one of them. It's really easy to see now why he became a huge star.

And then Angela Bassett! She was incredible, and she really got to shine as a complex character in a genre (cyberpunk) that usually doesn't allow women to be. And she beat lots of people up and showed off her incredibly buff arms a lot, and that is such a hallmark of the 90s. I love it, lol.

The two of them together had wonderful chemistry. There was so much shippiness oozing out, and I was like, is it me? But that's what happens when you allow a WOMAN to direct a movie. (I didn't even realize it was directed by a woman until after I watched it and was looking at the imdb page, and then I was like yeah, that totally tracks.) Actual meaningful moments between characters. Just look at this:

The way he's looking at her~~~ Be still my heart.

The movie itself was pretty good. The critiques I have of it is that it was on the long side (honestly could have edited out about 20+ minutes of stuff and the movie would have been fine and a little tighter paced), and also there's a graphic rape/murder scene in it and I really could have done without it. But aside from those two things, it's a good story, and while it has a fairly typical cyberpunk trope as the basis of the plot but there are some twists I didn't expect and I didn't predict the ending correctly so it worked out!

All in all, 8/10, worth watching for Ralph Fiennes and Angela Bassett and the two of them together. Big props for a woman-directed cyberpunk movie, a rarity in the genre so I'm happy to have been exposed to it.

There is really not a lot on TV! I just watched The Girls on the Bus and that was good, and highly recommend either Will Trent (Disney or hulu maybe?) or Ghosts or Not Dead yet for the LOLz.

I hardly ever watch movies either lol. I remember a VERY old movie ....no wait i'm thinking of Joseph Fiennes, Also did i know they were brothers? Or did i assume?

Anyway...I watched the Barbie movie and it was good lol. I might watch the new ghostbusters as there is another one in the theatre to go to

gosh i love arrows.

also watching tv, making icons, writing fic, reading comics, and generally fanning it up.
