google play pimp
May. 28th, 2013 11:53 amSo Google has had a free music player for a while now that I've been using and loving for a couple years now. It is a service where you upload your own music, then you can stream it anywhere from either a URL in your browser, or they also have an app for your phone which I utilize. It's called Google Play. It lets you make playlists, give your stuff thumbs up/thumbs down, has instant playlists, and so on. But it is just your music that you upload to the cloud.
They recently started a new paid part of the service, obvs their product to compete with Spotify, and right now they are offering a free month-long trial. (And if you sign up with the free trial any time before June 30th, then if you decide to continue the service & pay, you get a $2/month discount than if you were to sign up after June 30th!) The info about the new service is here.
I'm doing the free trial of the paid service right now and it is freakin' gr8t. I tried Spotify a long time ago and it just didn't work for me for various reasons, but the paid Google Play is something I've quickly fallen in love with and I totally signed up with the free trial as a lark and now I'm going to end up paying for it aren't I?? lol.
There's just EVERYTHING on it. There's been nothing that I searched for that wasn't available to stream. Movie scores, obscure stuff from the 80s, soundtracks from musicals, everything I've looked for was there. It makes radio stations based on music you already like. And the recommendation engine they use is really good. I'm guessing it's pulling from my YouTube history, because it recommended me Macklemore and kpop, which is stuff I listen to on YouTube cause I'm too lazy to download it. But now I don't have to download anythingggggg, nor suffer through YouTube playlists anymore, and also I feel so legit now. ahaha. Less guilty for downloading. Plus I've been giving lots of music a try, stuff I'm like "maybe I'd like but I would never download it." It's really great. Plus it still works either in the browser or on the phone app, a+. The interface on both platforms is great and easy to use.
OMG this entry just became an advertisement for Google Play. But I wanted to let everyone know about it cause of the free trial and if you try it out before June 30th, you get that discount! :D
