I've been watching Longmire and I was taking my time but then things started getting really super real when I got to season 2 and then last night I binge-watched 6 episodes to finish off season 2 and NOW I'M SO UPSET I'M OUT OF EPISODES AND HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL 2014!

I HAVE SO MANY EMOTIONS WHERE DO I BEGIN
Well first of all what a great show, it's so atmospheric and pretty and lovely. I was really in a western mood and this has an abundance of cowboys and guns and ~~codes of honor and IS VERY GOOD. The cinematography is great, and all the actors are awesome, and YAY GREAT SHOW EVERYONE SHOULD WATCH. When I first started watching I was like this show is good but not great but then IDK I just got sucked the fuck in. It's one of those slowly-grows-on-you shows and before I realized I cared way too much about EVERYBODY even Branch that douchebag fuck, uGH COMPLICATED EMOTIONS!! I also adore all the Native American stuff, I mean, I'm no expert, but it feels pretty realistic to me. And I like the complicated sometimes-adversarial sometimes-cooperative relationship between Walt and Matthias, the res police chief.
Secondly and here is the more spoilery part OMG FIRST I WAS LIKE JFKSFLJDFS I CAN'T BELIEVE WALT KILLED HIS WIFE'S MURDERER! then I was like WHAAAAAAAT HENRY KILLED HIM????? and then it was all HOLY SHIT NO HECTOR DID IT???? and then it was all LOL NOPE NOBODY KILLED HIM but he's still dead so WHAT HAPPENED WHO DID IT
AND MY POOR BABY HENRY WAS ARRESTED FOR DOING IT THOUGH AKLJDFKLDSFS IS IT TIME FOR SEASON 3 YET. Walt's gotta save him, man. Walt's gonna have to go out and solve his wife's murderer's murder obvs cause that detective from Denver is so much FAIL. WALT'S GOTTA SAVE HENRY. Henry/Walt brotp. I'M REALLY INVESTED IN THEIR FRIENDSHIP OK
And VIC! VICCCCCCCCCCccccccccccccc! writes ten-page treatise about how much I love Vic. I feel like there's till more to the story with this Ed Gorsky fuck (I think he beat himself up in order to frame Walt or Vic or whoever). I don't like seeing her sadddd. D:
Oh and I LOVE CADY SO MUCH NOW. I didn't really care about her in s1 but they weren't doing much with her character at first either but now I'm like SOB CADY ILUUUUU. And I adore Walt and Cady's relationship.
SO MANY EMOTIONS

Date: 2013-11-27 05:13 am (UTC)Vic is extremely different in the books: way less vulnerable and more trigger-happy with about thirty instances of "fuck" per sentence. She's also divorced as of the end of book 1 and we're now on book 9 or something. Walt's wife has been dead for four years when the books start, she died of cancer, and she wasn't the ~love of his life~. So both Walt and Vic are in very different emotional places in the books. I can see the shippiness in the show, but I hope they don't go there; in the books, it doesn't skeeve me out. It's Vic crushing on her mentor while stuck in a bad situation vs. Vic hanging around because she feels like it and enjoys threatening Walt's maidenly virtue.
I like both, but the books definitely win for me. Walt punches the Branch equivalent in the face in the first book and gets rid of him. Ferg is a minor character, and there are other deputies who are more important and whom I like way better than either Branch or Ferg in either of their incarnations. Henry is front and center all the time, way more than the deputies aside from Vic and way more than he is in the show (alas). I love Henry in the show, but I love him 10000000x more in the books. Walt is funnier and less manpainy too, which I prefer. Plus... well... I can't say no to book after book of him and Henry getting beaten up, shot, left for dead, etc. and rescuing each other in increasingly improbable circumstances. (There's quite a bit of that with most of the characters. The level of action and drama is significantly higher than in a lot of the TV episodes, IMO.)
Uh... so... driveby rec? I wouldn't avoid the books just because of the Walt/Vic stuff. They're similar enough to the show that I think most show fans would really enjoy them but strikingly different enough that both are good in different ways.
